What We Do

Here are just a few examples of the amazing events iNSIDEoUT has planned over the past years. If you have an idea for iNSIDEoUT, please let us know!

Summer Retreat
Every summer, the iNSIDEoUT Board retreats to the lake for a weekend of camping to build leadership skills, set a collective agenda for the year, sing songs around a campfire and reevaluate iNSIDEoUT’s goals.

Retreat 2013

NC Pride
iNSIDEoUT/Upsidedown hosts booths for youth and GSA members from across the state to network, make signs and march in solidarity as part of the NC Pride Parade.

Pride 13

Halloween Mixer
The Halloween Mixer offers a safe space for youth of all sexual orientations and genders to celebrate and dress up however they choose without fear or judgment.

Our overnight winter retreat brings together youth from across NC to network and participate in workshops that promote leadership, creativity, safety and inclusiveness.

FabUFest 14

A Southern Celebration of Youth Liberation, created by the NC Queer Youth Power Coalition. Queernival features youth, adult allies and organizations running carnival games, organizing, celebrating, dancing and performing. The NC Queer Youth Power Coalition is a collaborative of 3 organizations: iNSIDEoUT/UPSIDEDOWN, Youth Organizing Institute, and QORDS. More info.

Our annual literary magazine features paintings, poetry, short stories and other forms of artistic expression created by local LGBTQ youth. More info.

GSA/QSA Visits
We visit high school and middle school Gay-/Queer-Straight Alliances to help them navigate the logistics of establishing and running student clubs, develop ideas for programming, and set goals to address the challenges in changing their schools.

Queer Prom
We celebrate the poignant tradition of high school prom in an environment that is accepting of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, questioning, and allied students and non-students.

Annual Awards Banquet and Gaiety
Every May we honor youth and adults in our community who have done awesome things to benefit LGBTQI+ youth in North Carolina and beyond. Check out our banquet programs and award recipients from previous years: 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006.
